UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

Greensburg District U.M. Women

Here is a quote from a famous comedian.  “Remember to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn’t cost a cent.  Give time to love, give time to speak, and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.  Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away”.

God Bless and take care.
                    Yours in Christ,
                    Michele Boyer

The United Methodist Women of our church form a Unit that is part of one of the largest voluntary organizations in the world.  The UMW has a four-point emphasis.  They are:  fellowship, spiritual growth, education about mission and world problems, and financial support of national and world missions.  Our Unit is divided into two groups.  Circle I meets on the first Monday of the month in the afternoon and is led by Marge Hawk.  Circle II meets in the evening on the fourth Tuesday and the leader is Michele Boyer.  For more information about the circles, call one of the leaders.  Ruth Gordon is the president of the Unit.  The circles meet together as a unit, three times a year.

We sponsor, plan and decorate for the Mother and Daughter Banquet and every woman in the church is invited to attend.  At Thanksgiving the shut-ins of our church are visited by several UMW members and are given a basket of fruit and snacks.

We support missions through our offerings sent to the national UMW and are then distributed to missions serving the needs of women, children and youth throughout our country and the world.  We also give to local organizations serving others such as Meals on Wheels and Project Happy  Feet.  Happy Feet is a project sponsored by the Greensburg District  which gives vouchers to school nurses to give to children who need shoes.  We make health, sewing, and layette kits and we participated in our church’s project to make flood buckets.  We gave gifts to help with the Katrina mission trip.

Some of our members attend three district meetings a year where we hear speakers on missions or inspirational topics.  We also have sub-district Ash Wednesday Communion Breakfasts in an area church or at our church.  These services are very spiritual and are well attended.  Several of our members are on the Greensburg District United Methodist Women Executive Mission Team.

Anyone who wants  more information about the UMW can call one of the women mentioned in this article or may call the church office at 724-925-2881.
