SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS AND MESSAGES

IT’S THE LAW

These two laws are real, not urban legends.  The one about snow and ice also says that you can get a ticket if you have not cleaned the snow and ice off, even the roof and trunk of your car.  Trucks also.  The ticket is more expensive if someone is injured.

In addition, there is a third new law going into effect in January that required you to slow down going past anyone stopped on the shoulder of the road.  Either slow down or move into the left lane on a four-lane road.  This applies to ordinary motorists on the side, not just police officers.  Too many people have been hit while stopped on the shoulder of roadways.

NEW PA DRIVING LAW

Effective January 29, 2007 all motorists MUST turn on their headlights whenever they use their windshield wipers in inclement weather.  This new law applies when wipers are fully on or in intermittent mode.  Violators will be fined $25 but fees/other costs will increase the amount to $100!!!  Also, motorists will suffer substantial penalties if snow or ice on their vehicles injures or kills someone.  This is the first winter this law will be on the books.  Spread this information to all PA drivers that you know.  Don’t get a ticket because you were not knowledgeable about this new law.
