2016 – Prayer Walking – The Gates of Youngwood:
This is the 4th year that we have intentionally having been praying over the city of Youngwood. At the beginning of summer God showed us to go to the four major roads that people enter and leave Youngwood, these are the four major gates. To take a city for Christ, praying at its gates is vital. In ancient times, the gates were where authorities heard people’s causes and rendered judgments. Gates regulated what entered the city. If a gate were breached by an enemy, the city could be captured and its people plundered. Knowing that the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy, spiritually fortifying city gates is a major defensive strategy.
We felt called to secure the gates. First, we removed any negative or demonic activity that had entered Youngwood – intentionally or unintentionally. We then reestablished the gate under the authority of God and claimed Youngwood as His territory.
We asked Him to set angels to guard each of the gates.
Later in the summer, God directed us to revisit the gates and told us to name the gates. In ancient times, as entrances to marketplaces, gates were often named accordingly (sheep gate, fish gate). Gates regulated what entered the city according to their names. We were directed that if we don’t name our gates, someone else will.
We have been praying over Youngwood for 4 years – walking, declaring and taking communion. Now he told us to secure the city by naming the gates. So we declared Psalm 24:
Lift up your heads, O you gates!
And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,
The Lord mighty in battle.
We went back to the gates and waited on God to instruct us. We asked Him what names has the enemy tried to name the gates, and we spent time denouncing those negative, demonic names.
We then asked Him what name to call the gates.
I am excited to report to you that He not only gave us the Names of each gate, He provided scripture, songs and hymns, and gave us the names of the angels for each gate. He told us that every time we entered or left the gate we were to declare the name of the gate!
After we finished this – I had such a feeling of peace and release for Youngwood. I am introducing the names and the scriptures and angels posted at each gate.
I am declaring to you – as you enter the gate – name it and declare the city for God. Remember – It is foolish to think we can pray only once or twice. If we let down our guard, the enemy will try to retake the territory we captured from him.
